Early Life

Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer was born on July 25, 1908, and showed a deep affinity for music from a very young age. His mother gave him early exposure to Carnatic music, she was a skilled veena player. At the age of 10, young Srinivasa caught the attention of Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, a prominent musician, who recognized his prodigious talent and became his guru (teacher).

Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer received the prestigious Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awards, among other national recognitions. Additionally, he was bestowed with the title “Sangeeta Kalanidhi” by the Madras Music Academy.
