String Types of Guitar and Standard Tuning Explained
If we ask what all instruments are the most famous and most desired instruments in current times, the guitar is undoubtedly going to be one of them. But if we ask how many people have the proper knowledge of the instrument, the ratio will come down drastically. In today’s blog, I am going to explain in depth the types of strings a guitar has.
Anatomy
- Low e string – it is the 6th and the thickest string of the guitar and is made up of the thickest material. If you freely play this string, you will find out that it is tuned to lower e and hence is known as the lower e string.
- A string: this string is the second most thick string of the guitar and is considered the fifth string. If you freely play this string you will find out that it is tuned into the note a.
- D string: it is the 4th string of the guitar and is tuned to the noted. This string is responsible for creating an overall sound balance in the instrument.
- G string: it is the 3rd string of the guitar and is slightly thinner than the d string. It adds brightness to the overall sound of the guitar.
- B string: it is the second most thin string of the guitar and is the second string. It creates a melodious and delicate sound.
- High E string: it is the thinnest string of the guitar and is considered the first string. It creates high pitched melodious sound. It is tuned into the note higher e.
Tuning
In ancient times, the strings of the guitar were used to be made up of animal guts but in modern times metal, nickels, and different alloys were started to be used to form the strings of the guitar as the quality of the strings of the guitar also decide the quality of sound produced by it.
The standard way of tuning the guitar is the e standard where the 6th 5th 4th 3rd 2nd and the 1st string of the guitar are tuned into the notes a d g e b respectively.
